"My favorite stone is Kanfanar"
Kanfanar, one of our natural stone classics, also known as Giallo d'Istria. This high-quality limestone comes from the area around Rovinj on the Istrian peninsula.
The history of the light beige natural stone dates back to the 15th century, when it was first discovered and quarried near the village of Kanfanar. stone4you has been the exclusive sales partner for eastern Austria since 2012.
The high-quality limestone is easy to clean and allows for all surface finishes.
What I particularly like about it:
Kanfanar can be used indoors and outdoors, its color is Mediterranean and can be combined very well with all types of wood.
With Kanfanar, we can offer our customers a wide variety of products. Compared to other stones from overseas, where it is very difficult to obtain solid pieces, we can produce almost any desired workpiece from Kanfanar. The modern quarry is just a few hours' drive from Vienna. Short transportation routes have less impact on the environment than imported stone from the Far East. This makes it a particularly ecological and sustainable building material and guarantees short response times.
Silk matt finish: With the popular "antique" finish, the surface is sandblasted and the rough areas are then lightly smoothed by brushing.
Anyone strolling through the historic old town of Rovinj will immediately fall in love with the picturesque alleyways and squares of the former fishing village. Have you noticed that the cobbled streets of the Adriatic town remain pleasantly cool even in the hottest summer heat? A floor made of concrete blocks, ceramic or porcelain stoneware with a high quartz content, on the other hand, heats up so much that you can no longer walk on it barefoot.
Even at the height of summer, Kanfanar flooring remains pleasantly cool.
What do I associate with this natural stone?
I like the Istrian culture very much. The climate is pleasant and the people are very warm-hearted, hospitable and open-minded. When I see a project from or with Kanfanar, I immediately think of Istria. The climate, the food, the wines, all offer relaxation and respite from everyday stress. From my very first visit to the quarry, I felt an affinity with the land and its inhabitants that remains unchanged to this day.
Kanfanar is a reliable and low-maintenance partner in garden design.
Slip-resistant and robust: pool surrounds made of Kanfanar are a popular use for Istrian limestone.
What I recommend it for:
For all types of floor coverings, even in all slip resistance classes. Kanfanar is also suitable for stairs, guard tables, shower splashbacks and, with a brushed surface, even as a kitchen worktop. In the garden, this dense limestone is popular for block steps and wall facing in individual layers that stand out visually from mass-produced products from the Far East.

The flooring, staircase and wall made of Kanfanar create a Mediterranean ambience.
The excellent material properties allow floor or wall tiles for indoor use in a thickness of just one centimeter, and that in a format of 1 x 1 meter! These large formats with low material thicknesses are exceptional for a natural stone and illustrate the high quality of Kanfanar. With a water absorption of just 0.4 percent, Kanfanar is also very easy to clean.
Kanfanar's underground mining operations are protected from the weather, which means that it can deliver at all times.
